Amelia J. Alverson Appointed Executive Vice President for University Development and Alumni Relations

October 17, 2014

I am writing to announce my appointment of Amelia J. Alverson as Executive Vice President for University Development and Alumni Relations.  Amelia has served in this role on an interim basis since the spring, and during that period she has demonstrated the same combination of professional and personal talents that led to her outstanding contributions as Senior Vice President for Development at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) over the past five years.  Amelia has a unique ability to motivate and inspire both colleagues and volunteers to achieve exceptional results.  She brings to her new position great energy coupled with a strategic creativity honed by the experience of having worked effectively with the faculty, leadership, and alumni of all four schools at our Medical Center.

Amelia came to Columbia in 2009 after serving as Vice President for Development at the Stanford University Hospital and Clinics.  She began working with several of Columbia’s most passionate alumni benefactors to launch the campaign for our new Medical and Graduate Education Building and other improvements to the CUMC campus.  She has worked closely with P. Roy Vagelos, MD, Chair of CUMC’s Board of Advisors, and Dean Lee Goldman to lead CUMC’s substantial contribution to the historic Columbia Campaign completed earlier this year.

I can think of no better person to help steward this great institution and to build upon the sense of loyalty and enthusiasm now seen throughout the extended Columbia community.  Please join me in congratulating Amelia and wishing her all the best in her new position.

Sincerely,

Lee C. Bollinger
