David Madigan Appointed Interim EVP and Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences

March 15, 2013

Dear faculty and colleagues of the Arts and Sciences:

I am pleased to announce that Professor David Madigan, chair of the Department of Statistics, has agreed to serve as Interim Executive Vice President (EVP) and Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences until the search for a permanent EVP is concluded.  I am deeply grateful to David for his willingness to serve the University in this new role.

The spring semester, when crucial budgetary and academic recruiting decisions are made, is especially busy in the Arts and Sciences.  Provost John Coatsworth and I discussed this and determined that a full time Interim EVP would be helpful in ensuring that the Arts and Sciences continues on its upward trajectory.

I want to thank John both for taking on this extra burden over the past four months and for his energetic service to the Arts and Sciences.

The search for a new permanent EVP of Arts and Sciences is proceeding well, and I expect to make an appointment by the end of the semester.  Professor Robert Jervis, chair of the search committee, anticipates that the committee will provide me with its recommendations in late April.

Sincerely,

Lee C. Bollinger
