An Update on the Search for CUIMC's Next Leader

October 21, 2026

Dear members of the Columbia community,

I write to provide a brief update on the search for the next executive vice president for Health and Biomedical Sciences, dean of the Faculties of Health Sciences and the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, and chief executive officer of Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC). Identifying our next leader is of utmost importance and I am profoundly grateful to the search committee for agreeing to participate in this important process. The members, listed below, are deeply committed to CUIMC and each will contribute meaningfully to identifying priorities for the search and the qualities most necessary for CUIMC’s next leader.

We also have engaged the firm Isaacson, Miller to support this effort. Isaacson, Miller is highly experienced and knowledgeable in this field, and I am confident in its ability to guide us through a successful search.

It is essential that we have a sense of the needs of our community as we proceed through the search, and I encourage you to share your thoughts. Both the firm and the committee will be in touch with the CUIMC community, University leadership, external partners, and others throughout the process.

Though I am only in my fourth month as president, I am already deeply steeped in the excellence and impact CUIMC brings to our University, our city, and beyond. I am committed to a successful search that will identify an outstanding leader for CUIMC and will position us to reach even greater heights. Thank you all for your suggestions and support in this process.

Sincerely,

Jennifer L. Mnookin
