Michael Andreasen

Michael Andreasen joined Columbia in September 2026. As the executive vice president for university development and alumni relations, he is responsible for leading the organization that engages Columbia’s community of alumni, parents, donors, grateful patients, and friends. Appointed by President Jennifer L. Mnookin, Mike brings more than three decades of experience in transformational university fundraising.

Prior to this appointment at Columbia, Mike was the vice chancellor for development at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-Chapel Hill), where he built a collaborative fundraising ecosystem to meet the needs of 26 independent fundraising units, 17 associated foundations, and numerous advisory boards. He also guided the successful One Carolina fundraising effort, in close collaboration with the chancellor, provost, deans, senior administrators, and the Board of Trustees, achieving the second highest yearly donations total in UNC-Chapel Hill’s history.

Previously, Mike served as senior vice president for university advancement at the University of Oregon, where he oversaw the university offices dedicated to development, state, community, and federal affairs; advancement operations; stewardship; and public events and alumni relations. In this role, he executed a $3 billion campaign and was instrumental in securing some of the largest donations ever to a public flagship university—efforts that helped to advance the institutional mission. 

Prior to his 12-year tenure at Oregon, Mike held fundraising leadership roles at the University of Michigan; University of California, Santa Barbara; and the American Film Institute. He began his career as director of the annual fund for the University of California, Irvine, where he also earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science.
