Dear members of the Columbia community,
Since late yesterday, we have watched in grief and horror as events unfolded in Providence; I know we all send our prayers and support to friends, to colleagues, and to everyone in the Brown community at this unspeakably difficult time.
For our community, it’s a deeply upsetting and unsettling moment, particularly on top of the routine stress exam week brings. Together with the horrific news this morning from Sydney, of a targeted attack as Hanukkah celebrations got underway, I want to reassure our community about the safety of our campus; we offered an update this morning. I also want to ensure that help is easy to find for those who feel vulnerable in this moment and may need additional support. Our exceptional team of deans, advisors, faculty, staff, and other professionals stand ready to assist; we have an exceptionally caring community. The breadth and depth of our resources are detailed below.
Please take special care of yourselves, seek solace with friends and loved ones, and please keep an eye out for others in our community who may need connection and support.
Sincerely,
Claire Shipman
Acting President, Columbia University in the City of New York
