Announcements
This week at Columbia, despite the lingering summer warmth, autumn beckons.
I would like to offer several updates regarding our leadership team as we prepare for the fall term.
Yesterday, I had the chance to spend part of the day at Columbia’s oasis-like campus in Rockland County, the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.
Columbia has finalized an agreement with the federal government.
In recent weeks, in anticipation of the fall semester, my focus has been on the work we can do to support a civil, tolerant, flourishing community at Columbia.
As you may recall, in May, we established two research stabilization funds to help our scientists and researchers mitigate the challenges posed by disruptions in federal funding.
I am honored to announce that Farah Jasmine Griffin, the William B. Ransford Professor of English and Comparative Literature and of African American Studies, has been appointed University Professor.
This week, seven Columbia faculty members braved the sweltering Washington, D.C., heat and humidity to participate in 15 meetings with lawmakers and Congressional staff. They were there to tell the Columbia story.
Last summer, Columbia and our Task Force on Antisemitism launched a survey to help us understand, with depth and rigor, how the campus climate of the 2023-2024 academic year affected our students’ feelings of belonging and inclusion.
As summer unfolds in earnest, I’d like to offer a brief update about our status with the federal government and share what’s on my mind as we reengage more deeply in those discussions.
I want our community to understand the facts regarding this finding.
Welcome to Columbia on this momentous occasion, this celebration of our 271st academic year.
